I, we will show you the Gandhi Smriti also known as the Birla House We'll share how to get there by Delhi Metro Railway and what to see once you get there. The Gandhi Smirti isalso known as the Old Birla house, is the place where Mahatma Gandhi lived fromSeptember 9, 1947 to January 30, 1948 when he was assassinated. To get to the Gandhi Smriti, using the Delhi Metro Railway Take the Delhi Metro Yellow line toLok Kalyan Marg station. Please enable the caption option for this sothat you can see the names of stations and streets. From the Lok Kalyan Margstation, the Gandhi Smriti is about 850 meters. Take exit gate number 1, Nagaland House and walk northeast on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road. Follow signs to Gandhi Smriti and turn left towards Tees Tees January Marg near the Claridge's Hotel. The Gandhi Smriti is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on Mondays.

Once you get to the end of the lawn, you must take off your shoes andcan walk along a designated path. A Martyrs Column stands at the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was killed Mahatma Gandhi was the leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule. In India he is also known as Bapuand Gandhiji. He is unofficially called the father of the nation. Behind the lawn,you'll find a small chapel like structure where Gandhi often meditatedand led prayer and meditation services to his followers. Inside this structureyou'll find various colorful murals of Gandhi and his life. In the centre of thelawn is a beautiful fountain. This is truly a peaceful and calm place to visit. Adjacent to the lawn is a display. It has pictures, newspaper clippings, andhistorical accounts of Gandhi's life from childhood to his life in Englandand then in South Africa. It provides some insight on how he came to hisenlightened state and his philosophy of non-violence. A large statue of Mahatma Gandhi with a boy and a girl holding a dove in hishands standing on each side of Gandhi greets visitors at the main entrance ofthe Gandhi Smriti. It's the work of the renowned sculptor Shri Ram Sutar. Along the frontof the complex, is the museum. On display in themuseum are photographs, sculptures, paintings, frescoes, inscriptions on rocks, and relics from years Mahatma Gandhi spent here. You can also see a multimedia film at 1:00 p.m. This attraction will take 30 minutes or more depending on your interest Combine with nearby attractions likeIndia Gate, Connaught Place, and Humayun's Tomb.
