                                   Kaila Devi Temple in Karauli is a Hindu religious temple, which is considered as one of the 9 Shakti Peethas of Goddess Durga.

Kaila Devi Temple is situated on the banks of Kalisil River at a distance of 23 km from Karauli city.

Kaila Devi is situated in the form of a goddess in this temple, which is visited by lakhs of people every year.





Goddess Kaila is regarded as the protector and savior of mankind.

This temple was built by the rulers of Rayat Jadaun Rajput of Karauli kingdom.

Maharaja Gopal Singh ji had laid the foundation of this temple in 1723 which was completed in 1930.

He also installed the idol of Chamunda ji inside this temple which he had brought from the fort of Gangraon which was installed there in 1150 by the Khinchi ruler Mukund Das ji.



Kaila Devi is believed to be an incarnation of Mahamaya who was born to Nanda and Yashoda.

And placed him in place of Lord Krishna whom Kansa wanted to kill.
While trying to kill him, she took the form of a goddess and told Kansa that Lord Krishna had already taken birth and was now far away from here.

Built of precious marble, this temple has a large courtyard and a square floor.

The idols of Kaila Devi and Chamunda Devi are the main attraction of this temple.

It is worth noting that the idol of Kaila Devi is huge in size and her head is slightly bowed down.

There are many red flags in this temple which have been put up by the devotees.

Festivals and Fairs in Kaila Devi



The annual Kaila Devi fair is held in this temple in the month of Chaitra.

About 20,00,000 devotees mainly from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan come here during the fair in the Hindu month of 'Chaitra'.


The rituals of Kanak-Dandotis are followed by the faithful devotees.
They cover a distance of 15 to 20 kilometers to reach the temple, and this distance they do not walk on their feet, but while lying down and worshiping, they make a line with their hands in the same position and walk like this till they reach the temple.

                                 Kaila Devi Temple is situated at a distance of 23 km from Karauli, south-west of the main district road.
Which can be easily reached by local bus or local taxi.

                 Kaila Devi Temple is well connected to the nearest Gangapur City Railway Station (35 km) which is also connected to railway stations of major cities like Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Chennai, Ajmer, Pali, Jaipur, Ahmedabad.
