Humayun's Tomb or हुमायूँ का मकबरा in Hindi is a UNESCO WorldHeritage Site and was built in 1570 To get to the tomb using the Delhi Metro Railway, take the Delhi Metro Violet line also known asthe Heritage line to JLN Stadium station From this station Humayun's Tomb is about 1.5 kilometers You can catch a rickshaw to Humayun's Tomb or you can walk east about 20 minutes We recommend taking a rickshawfor a more comfortable trip.
please note when phase 3 of construction of the Delhi Metro Railway is complete in 2018 You'll be able to take the pink linealso known as the Inner Ring Road line and exit at Hazrat Nizamuddin stationwhich will be the closest station to the tomb.
Another way to get to the Tomb is takethe Delhi Darshan tours. These bus tours are very reasonably priced, air-conditioned, and run by DTC. Buses pick up at Scindia House at Connaught Place. For reservations please contact by calling 237-5277 ext 244 if you're not an Indian citizen orvisitor of a SAARC or BIMSTEC country you'll have to pay the foreignerentrance fee.

Humayun's Tomb was built in the 1560s in a charbagh style. Which isa four-quadrant garden with the four rivers of Quranic paradise representedwith pools joined by channels.
The structure is decorated in red sandstone with white and black inlaid marble borders The tomb is centered at the shrine ofthe 14th century Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin.
Since it is consideredfavorable to be buried near a saint's grave seven centuries of tomb building has ledto the area becoming the densest collection of medieval Islamic buildingsin India.
To get to the mausoleum, you'll have to climb up some steep narrowstairs so wear good shoes.
Once at the top, you'll see the mausoleum of Humayun's Tomb which stands high with two deep vaulted cells on all four sides.
Theinterior of the mausoleum has large octagonal chambers on the first and second stories with interconnected corridors Although the decor has long been removed, we know from historical account that the tomb was decorated with luxuriouscarpets, and a shamiana (canopy) above his cenotaph (marble coffin).
His cenotaph was decorated with copies of the Quran, Humayun's sword, turban, and shoes.
In the complex you'll also find otherstructures and garden tombs like the Nila Gumbad (Burj),
the Isa Khan, Bu Halima's Tomb and Garden, Afsarwala Tomb and mosque, and Barber's tomb.
